Mopar® Thermostats & Parts: Temperature Regulation

Big box stores and chains might be cheaper, but they can't guarantee the parts you're buying are genuine. Thermostats regulate coolant flow between the engine and radiator based on operating temperature. This valve opens when coolant reaches a specific temperature, allowing it to circulate through the cooling system. Proper thermostat operation maintains engine temperature within the correct range for efficiency and longevity. Vehicles like the Dodge Challenger and Chrysler 300 require precise temperature control for performance and reliability.

Why Thermostats Fail

Thermostats stick closed from corrosion and mineral deposits in the cooling system. The wax element inside the valve loses its ability to expand and contract with temperature changes. Spring mechanisms weaken over time and prevent proper valve closure. Gaskets deteriorate and cause coolant leaks around the thermostat housing. Low-quality aftermarket thermostats often open at incorrect temperatures or fail prematurely. Mopar® thermostats undergo precise calibration to open at exact temperatures specified for your vehicle.

Spotting Thermostat Problems

An engine that overheats quickly suggests a stuck-closed thermostat blocking coolant flow. Slow warm-up times and poor heater performance indicate a stuck-open thermostat. Temperature gauge fluctuations point to intermittent thermostat operation. Coolant leaks near the thermostat housing require gasket or housing replacement. Replace thermostats during cooling system maintenance to prevent overheating damage to expensive engine components.
