Mopar® Sway Bars: Controlling Body Roll

Here at Mopar®, we recognize the significance of maintaining your sway bars in good condition. Sway bars are metal rods that connect opposite wheels through the suspension system. They reduce body roll during cornering by distributing weight more evenly across all four wheels. This component improves handling stability and passenger comfort on curves and uneven roads. Vehicles like the Dodge Durango and Chrysler Pacifica rely on properly functioning sway bars for safe, controlled driving.

How Sway Bars Wear Down

Sway bars experience stress from constant twisting forces during normal driving. The rubber bushings that secure the bar to the frame dry out and crack from age and exposure to road chemicals. End links that connect the bar to the suspension break at their ball joints from repeated movement. The bar itself can develop stress cracks at mounting points after years of heavy use. Aftermarket sway bars often use softer metals that bend under stress or bushings that compress too quickly. Mopar® sway bars maintain strict specifications for material strength and bushing durability.

Signs Your Sway Bar Needs Attention

Listen for clunking sounds when driving over bumps or making turns at low speeds. Excessive body roll during cornering indicates worn bushings or a damaged bar. Uneven tire wear on the inside or outside edges suggests suspension problems related to sway bar function. Visual inspection should reveal cracked bushings or bent end links. Replace worn components promptly to maintain vehicle stability and prevent accelerated tire wear.
