Mopar® Brake Calipers FAQs

What Do Mopar® Brake Calipers Do?

The factory brake calipers on your Chrysler clamp down on the brake rotor to stop the wheel from rotating. Every time you press the brake pedal, it sends brake fluid from the master cylinder through a series of tubes, hoses, and valves. That brake fluid creates pressure on the pistons inside the caliper, which forces brake pads against the rotor. Your Jeep slows as a result of the resistance this creates. Eventually your vehicle stops when enough pressure is applied.

How Do You Spot Faulty Calipers?

There's a tremendous amount of heat generated when you brake. In time, this can weaken the seals inside the calipers, causing them to break down. Signs of trouble include:

  • Your brakes regularly grind or squeal
  • Your Dodge pulls to one side when you're braking
  • Your brakes feel spongy
  • You need to pump the brakes to get them to work right
  • Your warning light comes on
